Can you play it? From Software really outdid itself with Bloodborne, the spiritual successor to the ridiculously popular Dark Souls series. To put it simply, Bloodborne took the slow, methodical combat of Dark Souls and ratcheted it up several notches. The result is a faster, more fluid experience that, rather critically, retains the supreme challenge and depth that made From Software (in)famous. Couple the deeply satisfying combat with a chilling gothic setting and a story inspired by the king of gothic horror himself (Lovecraft), and you’ve also got yourself a recipe for one of the best action games ever made. Even more than four years removed from its launch, Bloodborne remains a special, unique game. It’s perhaps a tad easier to get into than Dark Souls or From Software’s latest game, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, but that’s merely a testament to the world design. It invites you in and holds on tight long after you’ve died 100 times against Father Gascoigne.
Monster video strain resource game pick of the day : While Grand Theft Auto V isn’t all that taxing on normal settings, if you crank it up to its absolute highest graphical settings and really lay on the extras (4K textures, high population variety, maximum distance scaling, etc.), the game can get pretty demanding. And, of course, let’s not forget about the main draw of GTA V on PC: the mods. If you want computationally intensive mods that turn the cartoonish base game into a near-photorealistic interactive action movie, you’re going to need computing horsepower out the wazoo, potentially more so than with any other game on this list. Before you tinker with your copy of GTA V, though, remember that Rockstar is awfully touchy about modding and might ban you from GTA Online if you toy with any component of the game. Recommended specs: CPU: 3.2GHz Intel Core i5 3470, 4GHz AMD X8 FX-8350 – RAM: 8GB – Storage: 72GB -GPU: Nvidia GTX 660 (2GB), AMD HD 7870 (2GB) – OS: 64-Bit Windows 7, 8, 10. I like Star Wars games and usually this games are resource intensive. It may have launched itself into a scandal with an initial build that put way too much focus on microtransactions, but subsequent updates to Star Wars Battlefront II have transformed it into an easy game to love. It has the epic multiplayer battles, heaps of characters, loads of nerdy references, and an engaging story that centres on an attention-grabbing new character named Iden Versio (an Imperial-turned-Rebel played brilliantly by Janina Gavankar). The show-stealing moment in the campaign falls to Luke Skywalker, here voiced by Matthew Mercer, who takes part in an emotionally-satisfying scene that lasts long in the memory. Hands up if you remember this one first time around? Arguably the most influential game on this list, Atari’s vector-based take on the Star Wars universe was revolutionary in its day. Though it seems quaint now, the super-fast line art and digitised voice over work of Star Wars Arcade seemed out of this world in 1983. Even know, the Death Star trench run as depicted here has its charm, a precursor to the on-rails shooters that would dominate arcades in the decades to come, as well as setting the standard for X-Wing flight sims of the future. Definitely worth popping a coin in if you manage to track down the machine still working in a dusty corner of an arcade somewhere.
